Job description
Practice the Medicine You Were Trained to Practice
West Park Animal Hospital | Tampa, FL
There are still veterinary practices where doctors are given the time, autonomy, and support to practice excellent medicine.
West Park Animal Hospital is one of them.
We are a veterinarian‑owned, locally led primary care practice built around a straightforward idea: when veterinarians have the time to think, the autonomy to make decisions, and clients who value comprehensive care, they do better medicine.
We built West Park for doctors who want to take that approach seriously.
The Medicine
This is a practice for veterinarians who enjoy thinking - medically and surgically.
Our longer appointments give doctors time to perform meaningful workups, discuss options with clients, and follow cases through rather than simply moving on to the next appointment.
Our doctors are encouraged to manage challenging medical cases and perform surgery appropriate to primary care, with capable technical support and clients who are receptive to comprehensive treatment recommendations.
We believe high‑quality primary care means:
Pursuing diagnostics when they can meaningfully change the outcome
Understanding and explaining the why, not simply the what
Recommending the best option for the patient, even when it requires nuance or a difficult conversation
Managing cases longitudinally rather than episodically
Taking ownership of medical and surgical decisions appropriate to your training and experience
We trust you to think. We trust you to decide.
The Practice
West Park is intentionally different from a corporate veterinary model.
Veterinarian‑owned and locally managed
No corporate protocols
High staff‑to‑doctor ratio
Calm, boutique hospital environment
Low‑stress handling principles
A culture built around curiosity, professionalism, and accountability
Our support team is there to allow veterinarians to focus on what they were trained to do: medicine, surgery, and patient care.
A Sustainable Career
We don't believe practicing excellent medicine requires sacrificing your life outside the hospital.
The schedule is designed accordingly:
Predictable weekday schedule
Maximum four‑day workweek
No weekends
No on‑call
We offer a ProSal compensation structure that rewards both clinical excellence and client relationship building. Veterinarians have the opportunity to develop a loyal client following, creating meaningful growth in both their practice and their earning potential over time.
We are also looking for someone who sees a future in clinical leadership. As West Park grows, this role is designed to provide a path toward increasing responsibility and, ultimately, Medical Director. We want our next generation of leadership to come from veterinarians who understand excellent medicine, take ownership of the practice, and want to help shape where it goes.
Why West Park?
If you are looking for the fastest appointment schedule, the highest case volume, or a narrowly defined role, there are practices better suited to you.
If you want to spend more time with patients, make thoughtful recommendations, develop meaningful relationships with clients, and continue growing as both a clinician and surgeon, West Park was built for you.
We are a small, veterinarian‑owned practice in Tampa with a simple objective:
Give good veterinarians the time, support, and autonomy to practice good medicine.
From the Practice Owner
“I built West Park Animal Hospital to deliver the kind of medicine I would want for my own dog: thoughtful diagnostics, evidence‑based recommendations, and uncompromising medical and surgical care. This practice exists to give veterinarians the time, support, and autonomy to practice at that level, without cutting corners.”
This position is best suited to a mid‑career veterinarian who has developed clinical confidence and now wants the environment to practice at a higher level.
You should:
Hold a DVM or VMD and be licensed in Florida, or be eligible for Florida licensure
Have approximately 3–5+ years of clinical experience, or equivalent training
Be comfortable managing medical cases independently
Be comfortable performing routine through moderately complex surgery
Communicate clearly and confidently with clients
Enjoy working through challenging cases rather than avoiding them
Take pride in well‑reasoned treatment plans and good surgical outcomes
Want a sustainable career without lowering your standards
We are less interested in years on a résumé than in how you think, how you practice, and the standards you hold yourself to.
