Position Overview:
The purpose of this position is to serve as a Veterinarian for Houston Humane Society.
You will:
Work in a brand new, fully-equipped, 10,000 sq ft public clinic with highly skilled staff.
Perform services such as high-volume spaying and neutering, general exams, diagnostics, dentistry, lab work, and vaccinations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
Perform all duties of a DVM as sanctioned by Texas state law.
Determine nature of disease or injury by examining pets.
Perform surgical procedures and provide anesthesia services.
Order and evaluate laboratory tests.
Provide training for personnel and volunteers related to animal care, nutrition, breeding, sanitation, and techniques for handling animals with a broad range of temperaments.
Prepare and maintain appropriate records.
Plan and conduct continuing animal health education.
Collaborate with other agency departments and staff to ensure continuity of care.
All other duties that arise in the course of daily operations.
Qualifications & Skills:
Requires a Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine. Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medicine. License must also include DPS and FDA controlled substance licensure.
Maintain current DVM license in good standing.
Knowledge of Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.
Strong client service skills.
Strong leadership, communication and motivations skills. Has the ability to direct, guide and assist a group of individuals.
Spanish language skills both written and spoken preferred, but not required.
