Job Description
Veterinarian – Urgent Care
Full-Time | Part-Time | Relief
Evening & Weekend Scheduling | Springfield, Ohio
We've been open since May, and our community response has exceeded our expectations. As our caseload continues to grow, we're looking to add another veterinarian to help meet demand while maintaining the level of patient care, teamwork, and work-life balance that our team values.
The Pet Clinic of Springfield Urgent Care is the first dedicated veterinary urgent care hospital serving Springfield and the surrounding communities. Our purpose is simple: provide high-quality urgent care while supporting local primary care veterinarians.
Our doctors evaluate and treat urgent, non-life-threatening conditions, stabilize patients when necessary, and work collaboratively with area general practices and emergency hospitals to ensure pets receive the right care at the right time.
Why You'll Love Practicing Here
No overnight shifts
Evening and weekend-focused schedule
Rotating weekend opportunities as our team grows
Flexible scheduling designed around both patient demand and team availability
True urgent care model - not full emergency medicine
Modern, well-equipped facility
Skilled, supportive RVTs and veterinary assistants
Collaborative relationships with local veterinary practices
Opportunity to influence a growing hospital without the uncertainty of a brand-new startup
Meaningful work that directly improves access to veterinary care in our community
If you're looking for challenging medicine without overnight emergency shifts, urgent care offers an unusual combination of clinical variety, schedule flexibility, and daytime availability.
Our Schedule
Our urgent care currently operates primarily during afternoon and evening hours, with weekend coverage built into our schedule.
As our team grows, we are actively working toward a more flexible rotating schedule that allows our doctors to share evening and weekend coverage. This may include expanding operating hours to additional days, including Thursdays, as well as potentially opening earlier in the afternoon.
Our current and anticipated scheduling needs may include shifts beginning as early as 2:00 PM and extending into the evening. Exact hours will depend on patient demand, staffing, and team availability.
We are looking for veterinarians who are comfortable with some flexibility in their days and hours and who are interested in helping us build a sustainable rotating schedule. Our goal is to provide consistency and advance scheduling while allowing our team to share weekend and evening coverage rather than relying on the same individuals every weekend.
Whether you're looking for a consistent part-time schedule, full-time hours, or occasional relief work, we'd love to discuss what may work for you.
What You'll Do
Evaluate, diagnose, and treat urgent care patients
Develop diagnostic and treatment plans tailored to each case
Perform common urgent care procedures, including wound management, laceration repair, abscess treatment, sedation, and other soft-tissue procedures appropriate for urgent care
Interpret digital radiographs and in-house laboratory results
Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients
Maintain timely communication with referring and primary care veterinarians
Collaborate closely with RVTs and veterinary assistants to provide efficient, high-quality patient care
Recognize patients requiring a higher level of care and facilitate appropriate referral to emergency hospitals when necessary
Help refine hospital protocols and contribute to our continued growth
Our Hospital
You'll have access to the tools and support needed to practice quality medicine, including:
Digital radiography
Comprehensive in-house laboratory diagnostics, including CBC, chemistry, urinalysis, and point-of-care testing
Modern equipment and established workflows designed for efficient urgent care
Experienced RVTs and veterinary assistants
A collaborative team environment with opportunities to continue improving how we practice
You'll be joining an established, functioning hospital with an existing caseload, support team, equipment, and workflows—while still having the opportunity to help shape where we go next.
What We're Looking For
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent)
Active Ohio veterinary license (or ability to obtain)
Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
Interest in urgent care medicine
Collaborative, team-oriented mindset
Commitment to practicing high-quality, compassionate medicine
Comfort working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining thoughtful, patient-centered care
Willingness to participate in a flexible evening/weekend schedule
Whether you're an experienced urgent care or emergency clinician or a general practitioner looking for a refreshing change of pace, we'd love to talk with you.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer competitive compensation with hourly and salary options available based on experience and schedule.
Full-time team members are eligible for a benefits package that includes:
Health insurance
Dental insurance
Vision insurance
401(k) with employer matching
Paid time off
Employee pet care discounts
Why Springfield?
Springfield offers an exceptional quality of life with the affordability and sense of community that's becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Located between Columbus and Dayton, you'll enjoy easy access to major metropolitan amenities while benefiting from short commutes, attainable housing, and a lower cost of living.
Outdoor recreation is abundant, with Buck Creek State Park offering boating, hiking, camping, and fishing just minutes away. Downtown Springfield continues to grow with locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, and community events.
Most importantly, you'll become part of a veterinary community that values collaboration. Our hospital exists to support local primary care practices by providing after-hours urgent care, helping pets receive timely treatment while allowing family veterinarians to continue providing the routine care they do best.
If you're looking for an opportunity to practice excellent medicine, work alongside a supportive team, and help shape the future of veterinary urgent care in our region, we'd love to hear from you.
