About Reef

Reef is a Utah-based vertically integrated investment and development firm founded in 2005. Reef's team is currently involved in some of the most prominent development transactions in Utah and other targeted geographies across the United States.

Built on two decades of success, our investment approach combines proven expertise with purposeful innovation. Reef's team has completed more than 500 transactions across all lines of business. In addition to our real estate investment strategy, Reef and/or affiliates own and operate various businesses that add significant long-term value to its projects. We have grown rapidly, growing from about 25 employees to well over 400, with managed assets on behalf of over 750 institutional and individual partners worldwide.

With the motto "Expect the Best," Reef's most prominent developments include Black Desert Resort, a $2 billion luxury resort in Ivins, Utah; Marcella, a luxury private golf community in Park City, Utah; Tributer Resort, Virginia's newest premier private lakeside golf destination; Cornerstone Club, a 5,000-acre residential community, private club, and resort in Telluride, Colorado; Sweetens Cove, a renowned and evolving golf destination nestled in the Tennessee Valley; and the restoration of the historic Coco Palms Resort in Wailua, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii.

Our culture is defined by a shared set of principles that guide how we think, collaborate, make decisions, and pursue success together. This mindset serves as the foundation for the five principles that define how we work together: first, we are One Reef, always prioritizing the success of the whole over individual agendas; we speak candidly and respond collaboratively; we move in solidarity once a decision is made; we take full accountability for outcomes in our domain; and we refuse to settle for anything less than extraordinary. These aren't aspirational values posted on a wall. They are the behaviors we hire for, develop, reward, and exhibit each day. Candidates who thrive at Reef bring energy, ownership, and a genuine commitment to raising the bar on everything they touch.

Position Summary

Reef is seeking a Vice President of Capital Formation to lead Reef's efforts to raise capital from institutional LPs, including public pension systems, sovereign wealth funds, and large corporate/multi-employer pensions, as well as RIAs, wirehouses, and other private wealth channels. This is a newly created, full-time, dedicated hire built to develop direct, programmatic capital-raising relationships with those investors. This person will build and run a repeatable, professionalized outreach and qualification engine across RIAs, wirehouses, institutions, and family office s, and over time, extend that capability to support capital raising from Reef's own member base.

Reef has an exceptional track record, having deployed more than $3 billion of investor capital across its investment strategies. The firm has generated returns of over 30% IRR in its real estate development business and approximately 15% unlevered IRR on realized loans within its private credit platform. In addition, Reef manages more than $1 billion in third-party assets under management and has demonstrated strong alignment with its investors by committing over $600 million of its own capital to its projects.

Responsibilities

Own outreach and channel development across large RIAs, wirehouse private wealth groups, pensions, insurance companies, family offices, and investment consulting groups

Build a qualification and relationship-management process for these channels, replacing today's ad hoc approach with a structured, programmatic pipeline.

Lead Reef through institutional due diligence and consultant-driven manager search processes, including RFIs/RFPs, operational due diligence questionnaires, and on-site diligence visits, to secure inclusion on approved manager lists.

Engage directly with high-net-worth individuals and institutional decisionmakers as the face of Reef in these conversations.

Work with secondary market groups, developing relationships relevant to secondary transactions, and liquidity conversations.

Support capital raising from Reef's member base (Marcella, Cornerstone, and Black Desert) as the role matures, extending the same relationship-building discipline inward to existing members.

Travel extensively to build and sustain these relationships in person; this is expected to be a substantial and ongoing part of the role.

Qualifications

Bachelor's in finance, economics or related field; Master's degree or MBA is preferred, but not required

Prove track record raising capital from large institutional LPs, including public pension plans and other major allocators, as well as RIAs and/or wirehouse private wealth channels, with credible relationships already in place.

Established relationships with institutional investment consultants who advise public pension plans and other large allocators, with a demonstrated track record of navigating manager searches and securing consultant approval/inclusion on buy lists.

Direct experience engaging high-net-worth and institutional investors, including being comfortable serving as the primary point of contact, not just supporting a deal team.

Familiarity with secondary market groups and family office channels.

Ability to build a relationship-management and qualification process from scratch

Self-directed and comfortable with heavy travel
