Job description

About Purposeful Design

At Purposeful Design, we serve men and women held back by a criminal record, past addiction, or homelessness by helping them rebuild their lives from hopelessness to promise through employment training, job placement, and by introducing them to the life-transforming power of Jesus. Purposeful Design, LLC is a division of Sagamore, Inc., a tax-exempt 501(c)3 charitable organization.

We do this life-rebuilding work through two ministries: Advance!, which trains and places job-ready graduates with 30+ employer partners at a living wage, and Purposeful Design Furniture, a handcrafted furniture business that provides transitional and long-term employment, discipleship, and skill-building for men facing steeper barriers. Our furniture sales fund the majority of our own operating costs (the remainder is bridged with donations and grants), and together our two ministries tell a fuller story than either could alone.

We're a ministry enterprise built on the conviction that every person, regardless of their past, is capable of transformation, worthy of dignity, and deserving of someone willing to walk alongside them as they discover what God has for their life through the dignity of work.

Role Overview

PD Furniture is growing, expanding its territory across the Midwest and building out a standard product line alongside its custom work. We're looking for a VP of Sales to own the full sales cycle, from the first conversation in the field to a closed, well-built project. This full-time role reports to the President.

Furniture is often the first way people encounter Purposeful Design. Customers and supporters are drawn in by beautiful furniture and the craftsmen behind it, and from there discover the wider ministry. Every closed project funds the work of employing and discipling men in transition. You'll carry that reality into how the team sells and model it for everyone in the sales organization.

What You'll Do

Own the Sales Strategy

Set the sales strategy: target markets and segments, territory and key account priorities, the mix of standard and custom work, and the annual sales plan and targets

Own the sales number, with growth across both standard and custom product lines from opportunity creation through close

Use sales data, from activity and quote volume to close rate and margin, to guide decisions and forecasting

Lead the Sales Team

Lead, manage, and hold accountable (LMA) the sales team, both in the field and in the office

Coach Outside Sales on building new relationships, deepening existing ones, and bringing in opportunities worth quoting

Develop Design and Estimation and Inside Sales to keep quote quality and turnaround high at growing volume

Keep the handoff from opportunity to quote inside the team so nothing stalls

Win and Grow Business

Close all projects, large and small, consulting with the President on significant, complex, or mission-sensitive deals

Review pricing at the project level, protecting margin while staying competitive

Own key account strategy and growth, client retention, and customer feedback across the account base

Run a Clean Sales Process

Guide every customer through PD's proven process: Introduction, Scoping, Design & Price, Approvals, Manufacturing, and Delivery

Nail down complete and accurate delivery details on every project, including dimensions, site conditions, timing, and logistics, so projects arrive right the first time

Keep Monday.Com, our CRM and quoting system, accurate and complete so the team, the President, and the wider organization can trust the pipeline and forecast

Improve the quoting workflow and apply AI tools to sales inputs, outputs, and quoting, building on work already underway on the team

Partner with Marketing and the Wider Team

Work alongside Marketing, which owns brand, digital, trade shows, sales tools, and demand generation, so campaigns and events align with the sales strategy

Feed back what customers are saying so marketing and product development stay grounded in the field

Participate in Furniture's EOS meetings, carrying sales rocks, scorecard measurables, and issues

What You'll Bring

Strength in our 4 Core Values: Faith-driven Action, Others First, Ownership, and Constant Improvement

A sales leader who can set strategy, close deals, and build a team that performs

A strategic thinker who can read a market, choose where to focus, and turn that into a plan the team can execute

Comfort leading in the field and in the office, coaching relationship-building and business development as well as running a quote engine

Strong command of pricing and margin, comfortable reviewing and defending quotes

An organized, systems-minded approach to keeping the pipeline and quote process running cleanly at growing volume

A developer of people who raises the performance of the team, not just individual numbers

Practical experience using AI tools to improve sales and quoting processes

EOS fluency: comfortable with scorecards, rocks, and L10s

A heart for the mission and the ability to hold business results and ministry purpose together

What We Offer

Competitive pay

Health insurance benefit (ICHRA) and PTO benefits

A leadership seat in a growing furniture business with geographic expansion underway

Opportunity to directly impact lives through meaningful work

Faith-centered environment that values prayer and spiritual growth

Collaborative team culture where everyone contributes

Work Location and Travel

This position is based at our Indianapolis facility, with regular on-site presence to lead the inside sales and estimation team and work closely with Production. Regular regional travel is expected across Indiana and contiguous states to support key accounts, field sales, and Midwest expansion.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

7+ years of B2B sales experience, including at least 3 years leading a sales team

Experience in contract or commercial furniture, or a similar project-based B2B sale, strongly preferred

Experience with a CRM or pipeline platform;

Monday.Com experience aplus
