Pioneer Valley Hospice Volunteer Services Coordinator

Salary Range $ /hr. (based on experience)

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position.

Position Summary: The Volunteer Services Coordinator (VSC) is responsible for planning and implementing the Pioneer Valley Hospice and Palliative Care (PVHPC) Volunteer Support Services program. As a member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), the VSC serves as a liaison between volunteers, the team, and other staff members. The VSC also serves as a consultant to staff on volunteerism, as an advocate for volunteers and the volunteer role within the agency and in the community.

Essential VSC Job Functions

Develop, implement, and maintain volunteer training and orientation program.

Recruit, educate, and select volunteers from at least two (2) recruitment and training sessions per year.

Assist in training volunteers for assignments to various departments in the agency

Supervise and evaluate volunteers in a timely and appropriate manner.

Ensure volunteers comply with annual safety, training, and administrative requirements.

Maintain monthly statistics and program records per standards.

Coordinate support and education, meetings, and events for the volunteer team.

Orient new employees and others (interns, students, visitors) to the PVHPC volunteer program.

Promptly establish a plan for patients and family/caregivers referred for Volunteer services in collaboration with the IDT.

Attend and participate in IDT meetings.

Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and CHAP regulatory requirements.

Monitor risk management issues for Volunteer support services and notify supervisor of related incidents.

Reevaluate the volunteer program as necessary, and prepare an annual plan draft by the end of each year.

Participate as needed in the budget preparation for program development.

Actively participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.

Annually monitor volunteer personnel satisfaction within the VSS program.

Demonstrate continuous growth in professional skills and knowledge in the field.

Maintain up-to-date personnel files

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Development Duties

Assist in the agency's marketing/public relations plan to include brochures, press releases, Social media, website, community-informational events, print, radio, reporting, and record keeping.

Implement the agency's fundraising program to include donor solicitations, fundraising event planning, donor recognition, reporting and record keeping.

Coordinate event fundraising planning with staff 'event organizers'.

Maintain fundraising/donor information in fundraising software program.

Qualifications

(Minimum qualifications will be considered required unless specifically stated otherwise)

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of recent significant responsibility for recruitment, supervision, training, and recognition of volunteers or similar responsibilities in human resource management.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a health care setting. Hospice and/or volunteer experience preferred.

Education and Training:

College degree in human services, personnel, adult education, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.

Has knowledge of hospice philosophy; hospice volunteer training preferred.

License, Certification & Registration:

Valid driver's license with reliable vehicle

Other Requirements:

Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills and public relations skills.

Demonstrates autonomy, organization, assertiveness, flexibility, and cooperation in performing job responsibilities.

Demonstrates excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills.

Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language proficiently

Must have proficient computer skills.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Ability to successfully relate and respond to the needs of management, team members, and hospice patients/caregivers.

Ability to represent and articulate the Integritus mission, vision, and strategies in developing, implementing, and coordinating the Volunteer program.

Other Volunteer Coordinator-Specific Requirements:

Must be knowledgeable of hospice practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to hospice.

Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals and objectives, policies and procedures that relate to the Volunteer Coordinator function

Ability to organize and develop volunteer hospice personnel for both patient and organizational needs.

Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

Additional supervision received from Patient Care Manager

Medical Director; Nursing Staff; Hospice Aides; Interdisciplinary Team; Administrative personnel; Human Resource Dept.; Hospice vendors; Integritus Home Office personnel

Working Conditions:

Uniform / Dress Requirements (Per Policy No. C:3-015.1)

Work Environment:

Work Schedule: Primarily during office hours; evening or weekend assignments will occur with notice due to volunteer training and hospice organizational events.

Working Conditions: Office environment and various community settings. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. May encounter emergency or crisis situations.
