Job description

Overview

The VP of Strategic Growth is a field-facing business development professional responsible for identifying, engaging, and cultivating relationships with physicians who are exploring retirement, succession, or a strategic partnership. This individual owns the full origination process--from initial market research and outreach through first meetings, relationship development, and handoff to the Growth & Acquisition team once a deal is qualified. Unlike a traditional sales role, this position requires patience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to build trust with physicians over months or years. The best candidates will understand the unique personal and professional motivations or retiring physicians and how to position our client as the right partner for their legacy.

Key Responsibilities

Market Coverage and Target Development

Identify and prioritize retiring or succession-ready physicians through market research, referral networks, industry events, and database sources

Serve as primary point of contact for prospective physician sellers from first outreach through the qualification and handoff stage.

Conduct initial discovery calls and in-person meetings to understand each physician's practice model, goals, timeline, and legacy priorities

Represent our client at healthcare conferences, medical association events, and physician networking opportunities to expand the pipeline and brand presence

Prepare concise opportunity summaries and pipeline updates for EVP and Investment Committee review, capturing key metrics, relationship status, and next steps

Work closely with the EVP on overall origination strategy, target prioritization, and market expansion decisions

Partner with the Growth & Acquisitions team post-handoff to support seller relationship continuity during diligence and closing

Coordinate with marketing on physician-facing collateral, outreach campaigns, and brand positioning materials tailored to retiring physicians

Provide regular pipeline updates to EVP and Director of Growth & Acquisitions as part of the team's cadence

Required Qualifications and Experience

5+ years of experience in healthcare business development, physician relations, or a closely related field with direct outbound origination responsibility

Demonstrated success building and converting a pipeline of M&A leads over a sustained period

Track record of managing long-cycle relationship development — comfortable operating on 6–18 month sales cycles with patience and persistence

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build credibility and trust with physicians across a variety of practice settings

Self-starter with the ability to operate independently in a field-based role with minimal day-to-day supervision

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working within a private equity-backed healthcare platform or physician practice management company

Strong understanding of physician practice economics, the concierge medicine model, or physician succession dynamics

Familiarity with the concierge or direct primary care model, including patient membership economics and physician lifestyle considerations

Existing network of retiring or succession-seeking physicians, or established relationships within target markets

Experience coordinating successor searches or physician-to-physician introductions in a practice transition context

Proficiency with CRM tools and pipeline reporting systems
