Job Description

Our client is a large-scale industrial organization seeking an experienced Warehouse Superintendent to lead warehouse and receiving operations supporting a complex, around-the-clock facility.

This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for multiple warehouse crews, inventory accuracy, receiving and material movement, employee development, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate has experience managing warehouse operations in an industrial, manufacturing, mining, refining, construction, or similarly complex environment and is comfortable leading teams in a fast-paced, 24/7 operation.

Position Overview

The Warehouse Superintendent will provide operational leadership for warehouse and receiving functions, establishing processes and performance standards that ensure materials are received, stored, tracked, and issued accurately and efficiently.

This position will oversee warehouse personnel across multiple shifts and will be responsible for maintaining inventory integrity, optimizing warehouse space and material flow, supporting audit requirements, and ensuring compliance with applicable safety and hazardous-material handling requirements.

The role requires a visible, hands-on leader who can develop teams, solve operational problems, and drive measurable improvements in warehouse performance.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations

Oversee daily warehouse and receiving activities across multiple shifts.

Establish and maintain standardized procedures for: Receiving and goods receipt

Material issues and distribution

Picklists

Put-away

Staging

Returns to stock

Cycle counting

Inventory control

Quality control activities

Monitor staffing, workloads, and shift coverage to ensure operational requirements are met.

Maintain consistent standards for warehouse productivity, accuracy, and service.

Ensure materials are available to support ongoing operational and maintenance requirements.

Serve as the operational subject matter expert for warehouse activities and processes.

Team Leadership & Development

Lead, supervise, and develop warehouse personnel across multiple crews and shifts.

Establish performance expectations and daily priorities.

Monitor individual and team performance.

Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management as needed.

Participate in recruiting and selection of warehouse personnel.

Develop and implement training programs for warehouse employees.

Ensure employees maintain required certifications and training.

Build a culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Develop employee capabilities and identify opportunities for advancement and skill development.

Inventory Management & Accuracy

Maintain overall accountability for warehouse inventory accuracy.

Establish and manage cycle-counting programs.

Ensure inventory counting requirements and accuracy targets are consistently achieved.

Lead annual physical inventory activities.

Maintain accurate system transactions and inventory records.

Oversee storage and inventory management for raw materials, consumables, spare parts, and other operational materials.

Identify inventory discrepancies and lead root-cause investigations.

Implement corrective actions to prevent recurring inventory issues.

ERP & Systems Management

Ensure accurate and timely transactions within ERP/MRP systems.

Maintain system integrity and accurate inventory information.

Utilize warehouse and inventory systems to monitor material movements and inventory levels.

SAP experience is preferred.

Identify opportunities to improve system utilization and warehouse processes through technology.

Support implementation or enhancement of warehouse management tools and processes.

Warehouse Layout & Material Flow

Develop and maintain warehouse layouts that maximize available space.

Optimize material flow to reduce unnecessary handling and movement.

Establish appropriate storage strategies based on material type, frequency of use, safety requirements, and operational needs.

Identify opportunities to improve warehouse efficiency and throughput.

Evaluate material-handling processes and implement improvements where appropriate.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

Maintain strict adherence to applicable safety, environmental, quality, and labor requirements.

Oversee proper handling and storage of hazardous materials.

Ensure appropriate Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documentation is maintained and accessible.

Ensure employees receive appropriate training related to hazardous material handling and warehouse safety.

Maintain safe operating practices for forklifts, flatbeds, and other material-handling equipment.

Partner with EHS and other internal stakeholders to address safety concerns and compliance requirements.

Promote a strong safety culture across all warehouse operations.

Compliance, Controls & Audits

Maintain appropriate inventory controls and documentation.

Support internal and external audits involving warehouse operations and inventory.

Partner with Finance, Safety, Quality, and other functions to address audit findings.

Develop and implement corrective actions for identified deficiencies.

Ensure warehouse processes comply with established company policies and internal controls.

Maintain appropriate segregation of duties and documentation within inventory processes.

Performance Management & Continuous Improvement

Establish and monitor warehouse KPIs.

Analyze operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

Use root-cause analysis to investigate recurring warehouse and inventory issues.

Develop short- and long-term plans to improve warehouse efficiency and inventory performance.

Apply Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies where appropriate.

Engage employees in identifying and implementing process improvements.

Drive initiatives focused on productivity, accuracy, space utilization, material flow, and cost efficiency.

Establish a culture of continuous improvement and operational discipline.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations, Maintenance, Finance, Safety, Quality, and other internal departments.

Align warehouse strategies with broader operational and business objectives.

Communicate warehouse performance, inventory concerns, and operational risks to leadership.

Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve material availability and warehouse-related issues.

Build strong working relationships across multiple departments and operational functions.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management , or a related field preferred.

Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

3+ years of experience supervising or managing warehouse operations.

Strong warehouse management experience within an industrial, manufacturing, mining, refining, construction, or similarly complex environment .

Strong understanding of inventory management and warehouse processes.

Experience working with ERP/MRP systems .

SAP experience preferred.

Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement principles.

Experience managing multiple shifts, crews, or warehouse teams preferred.

Strong Microsoft Office skills.

Specialized Experience

Experience developing and implementing warehouse operating procedures.

Experience training and certifying employees on forklifts and other material-handling equipment.

Ability to operate a forklift and obtain required certification if necessary.

Knowledge of applicable EHS, quality, labor, and warehouse safety requirements.

Experience managing inventory involving raw materials, consumables, and maintenance spare parts.

Experience with cycle counting and physical inventory processes.

Experience supporting warehouse audits and internal controls.

Experience working in a 24/7 industrial operation is highly preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is based in an active industrial environment and requires regular interaction with warehouse, production, maintenance, and outdoor operating areas.

The role may involve exposure to:

Outdoor weather conditions

Industrial equipment and moving machinery

Chemicals and hazardous materials

Dust, fumes, and airborne particles

Noise and other industrial conditions

Employees may be required to wear PPE appropriate to the work environment, including safety footwear, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing, respiratory protection, and other required equipment.

The position may require: Standing and walking for extended periods

Operating or working around material-handling equipment

Climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, and similar physical activities

Lifting up to 50 pounds

Working in required PPE

Working across multiple shifts or supporting a 24/7 operation
