Job description

Warehouse SupervisorThe Warehouse Supervisor is accountable for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of all warehouse operations on their assigned shift. This role owns shift performance across safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people engagement, ensuring operational targets are consistently achieved while fostering a high-performance, continuous improvement culture.The Supervisor leads, coaches, and develops the warehouse team, ensures disciplined execution of processes and systems, and drives operational excellence aligned with Polytainers' business objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesSafety, Compliance & Food SafetyAct as the designated "Competent Person" on shift, ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety, HACCP, cGMP, and 5S standardsLead incident/accident investigations, ensuring timely reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actionsProactively identify hazards and implement preventative measuresConduct regular safety audits and ensure proper documentationEnsure proper product handling, storage, and traceability to meet food safety and quality standardsOperational Performance & KPIsOwn and deliver shift performance against key metrics including:Safety (TRIR, near misses)On-Time In-Full (OTIF) shippingInventory accuracyPicking/shipping accuracyLabour productivity and costMonitor real-time performance and take immediate action to address gapsEnsure effective shift handovers with clear communication of issues and prioritiesEscalate operational risks and issues as requiredInventory Control & Systems ExecutionEnsure accurate and timely execution of all warehouse transactions in WMS/ERP systemsLead cycle count activities and resolve inventory discrepancies through root cause analysisMaintain high levels of inventory accuracy and system integrityDrive discipline in scanning, tracking, and material flow processesLabour Planning & Workforce ManagementDevelop and execute daily labour plans aligned with volume and operational prioritiesMonitor productivity and optimize workforce utilization across functionsManage staffing levels, including overtime and temporary labour, to meet business needsMaintain attendance, vacation, and scheduling in DayforcePeople Leadership & DevelopmentLead, coach, and develop team members to build a high-performing and engaged workforceEnsure fair and consistent application of company policies and standardsManage performance through regular feedback, coaching, and formal performance improvement processesMaintain accurate documentation of performance and disciplinary actionsIdentify training needs and maintain an up-to-date training matrixDevelop team capability through cross-training and succession planningQuality & Problem SolvingEnsure timely response to NCRs and quality issuesLead structured root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys) and implement sustainable corrective actionsPrevent recurrence of issues through process improvements and team educationContinuous ImprovementIdentify and implement opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and space utilizationLead or participate in Kaizen events and CI initiativesTrack and report measurable improvements and sustain gainsPromote a culture of continuous improvement and accountabilityCommunication & Cross-Functional CollaborationLead daily and weekly team communication meetingsCommunicate performance results, priorities, and expectations clearly to the teamCollaborate with Planning, Customer Service, Production, and Quality to ensure alignment and service excellenceSupport urgent customer requirements and operational escalationsOperational Excellence & HousekeepingEnsure warehouse organization, cleanliness, and visual management standards are maintainedConduct daily audits to ensure compliance with operational standardsSupport layout optimization and efficient material flowQualifications & ExperienceEducationPost-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent experienceExperienceMinimum 5 years of warehouse experience in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environmentMinimum 2 years of supervisory experience preferredExperience in plastics and/or food packaging industry is an assetTechnical SkillsStrong knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, and material flowExperience with WMS/ERP systems (SAP preferred)Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel required)CertificationsForklift and Reach Truck certification preferredCore CompetenciesStrong leadership and people development skillsResults-oriented with a bias for action and accountabilityExcellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilitiesEffective communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to influence and build trust across teamsHigh sense of urgency and ownershipStrong organizational and time management skills
