Wastewater Technician PositionThe City of Sierra Vista is looking for a Wastewater Technician. This position offers a competitive salary range of $47,923.20 to $76,960.00 annually and is located in Sierra Vista, AZ.This is a full-time position within the Public Works department. The job number is REQ 1595 and applications are accepted continuously.This position is a drug-free workplace. A positive result may result in the withdrawal of an offer of employment.Definition & Essential FunctionsUnder general supervision, this role involves performing specialized, skilled, and semi-skilled tasks in the City's wastewater treatment facility, sewer collection system, and water treatment/distribution facility.TasksKey responsibilities include:Ensuring safe operation of equipment and proper work methodsProviding construction plan review and technical assistanceAssisting in technical specification writing and preparing detailed scope of work submittalsDirecting other section employees on a project basisProviding stand-by and emergency maintenanceWorking with other division technicians to meet ADEQ permit requirementsMaintaining and reviewing operational and laboratory dataProviding training and work instructionAssisting with preparation of reports, budgetsKnowledges, Skills & Other CharacteristicsRequired knowledge includes city procurement procedures, basic principles of biology, chemistry, and mathematics, water/wastewater testing techniques, underground utilities and construction techniques, OSHA standards, and computer systems. Skills include performing maintenance and repair work, leading maintenance staff, reading blueprints, operating vehicles and equipment, and establishing effective working relationships.QualificationsFor Wastewater Technician I:High School Graduate or GEDThree (3) years experience in water, wastewater, collections, distribution or related industrial field systems operationsCommercial Driver's License, Class B minimumCertifications in ADEQ Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment, and Wastewater Collection operatorsOne of the following certifications: PACP/LACP/MACP, Backflow Prevention, Pesticide Applicator with aquatics endorsement, Electrical training for Non-electricians, or other pre-approved certificationsFor Wastewater Technician II:High School Graduate or GEDFour (4) years experience in water, wastewater, collections, distribution or related industrial fieldCommercial Driver's License, Class B minimumCertifications in ADEQ Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment, and Wastewater Collection operatorsTwo of the following certifications: PACP/LACP/MACP, AZ Dept Agriculture Pesticide Applicator with aquatics endorsement, NFPA 70E ARC Flash and energized work certification, or other pre-approved certificationsAdditionally, Technician I must obtain Technician II level within 24 months.BenefitsThe City of Sierra Vista offers a comprehensive benefits package including:100% city-paid medical, dental, and short-term disability insurance$50,000 in term life insurance with up to $250,000 available for purchaseVision insurance, AFLAC, Legal Shield, education assistance, and health club membership discountParticipation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS)Twelve vacation days per year, twelve paid sick days per year, and twelve paid holidays per year
