Job TitleJob Description for City of GlobeGeneral PurposePerforms a variety of semi-skilled and skilled repairs and maintenance work, operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer, streets, City services and systems, and parks maintenance. City of Globe is a drug and alcohol-free environment. POSITION EXPECTATIONSThis position requires the ability and willingness to perform continuous, hands-on physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions.The people who fill this position should also possess existing skills and experience performing a variety of craft, skills, and technical abilities and bring additional specialties skills that enhance their value to the position.The people who fill this position should be self-starters who are inherently motivated, work well together as a team, and take the initiative in determining what needs to be done, or proactively seek out their supervisor for direction to ensure their productivity for the City.That all Public Works department employees understand they are in essence ambassadors for the City, working towards a common goal, shared by other departments of the City, to provide quality municipal services and are committed to take on that role with pride and professionalism when working in view of the public, working directly with residence, or working with members of other City departments.It is our desire that people who fill this position will want to stay and grow with the City as employees and team members. For those that do, we intend to offer opportunities for professional growth and advancement, and we hope people who accept this position will seek out these opportunities.Examples of DutiesAssists with the planning, scheduling and implementation of construction, maintenance, and operation and construction activities designed to provide quality water, sewer, street and drainage service for the city.Inspects and/or repairs chlorine injection equipment, booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, drainage systems and sewer systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the system are functioning properly.Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc.Must be able to determine locates through blue stake process for gas, telephone, power, cable water and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.Responds to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss or no water; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor.Contacts residents and business owners in areas where services will be discontinued and explain when services will be shut off and how soon it will be turned back on.Mows and maintains parks and open space areas; mows lawns; weeds, maintains sprinkler systems and assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads.Maintains trails and improvements.Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of drinking fountains and restrooms.Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs City Facilities as needed.Performs minor unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance of open space structures such as restrooms, shelters, maintenance sheds, etc. by performing custodial, maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment.Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers.Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of parks and open spaces.Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.Operates tractors, mowers, jack hammers, welders, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other listed equipment as needed.Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions.Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises.Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various functions and programs, prepares facilities for program use.Assists in the construction of new open space facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work.Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand.Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as mechanized broom, Jetter/inductor truck or backhoe/loader.Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling.Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans and flushes water mains, pipe, gates, and fittings on repair of mains and services and installation of services, fire hydrants and drinking fountains; assists in shutting off broken sections of water mains.Services water supply, sewer lift and other pumps.Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the water, sewer, streets and parks department.Performs other duties as assigned.Employees will be scheduled to work On-Call hours on a rotational basis and as needed for emergencies or events.Required QualificationsEducation and Experience:Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, andAny equivalent combination of education and experienceGood (1 to 3 years) experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair, orAbility to obtain a Commercial Driver's License.Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must have the ability to obtain ADEQ Water Distribution Certification level 1Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activitiesSkill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipmentAbility to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of timeAbility to work safely and carryout safety proceduresAbility to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and computer skillsAbility to communicate effectively with the employees, other departments and the publicAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the publicAbility to understand and carry out written and oral instructionsAbility to successfully complete AZ DOC Inmate TrainingAbility to successfully complete AZ 811 (Blue Stake) trainingAbility to successfully complete Traffic Control and Flagger trainingAbility to successfully complete Occupational and Hazards trainingSpecial Requirements:Must obtain a valid state driver's license at the time of hire date.
