Water Plant Operator ILearn more about the City of Edmond by visiting the City of Edmond's website.Starting Salary: $20.18This is a Safety Sensitive Position.About the PositionThe Water Plant Operator I is one of several water plant operator jobs within the water treatment plant for the City of Edmond. The water treatment operator helps with routine equipment/machinery adjustments, maintenance, occasionally supervising trainees.Employees must be willing and able to work shifts, holidays, and as part of a rotating on-call schedule to maintain 24/7/365 operations. Must be able to work 7:00 am to 5:00 pm with an 8 days on, 6 days off schedule.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent7 to 11 months of related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experienceValid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrierResponsibilitiesConduct process control sampling and testing via analytical laboratory workPerform bench-top Jar-TestingMonitor water quantity and distribution system pressureMonitor plant and well equipment and processes via sensors and tactile observationMonitor chemical use, adjust chemical dosages, and change chemical supplies (chlorine cylinders, polymer barrels, etc.)Obtain water operator licenses according to the following schedule (the City will assist with obtaining these licenses): A temporary license within 10 daysA Class "D" within six monthsBoth a "C" Water Works Operator and "C" Water Works Laboratory Operator license within 2 yearsDocument operational activities via plant logs, computer records, and bench sheetsMonitor backwash progress and efficiency via lab instrumentationPerform preventive and general maintenance tasks for plant processes, systems, equipment, and appurtenancesPerform housekeeping tasks (like cleaning plant equipment, buildings, and grounds)Necessary Skills/AbilitiesGood mathematical abilityAbility and willingness to take continuous education classes to maintain or upgrade ODEQ licensesAbility and willingness to work shifts, holidays, and as part of a rotating on-call schedule to maintain 24/7/365 operationsAbility to meet required physical standards for this positionAbility to pass investigative background process, including a hearing test and drug screeningBenefitsOpportunity to become an Operator II with experience and certificationGenerous benefits package including health, vision, and dental insuranceAccess to a dedicated primary care medical clinic at no cost to employees and covered dependentsGenerous time off, paid holidays, longevity rewards, and retirement benefitsPaid parental leavePotential for bilingual payA tangible impact to the Water Resources department and residents in the City of EdmondA dynamic and inclusive environment where your contributions are valuedApplications will be accepted until vacancy is filled.
