Job description

Job TitleWe are looking for someone toCheck, adjust and repair chemical injection equipment; check turbidities in the plant and system; operate, assess, and maintain filter treatment operation effectiveness; check chlorination equipment; collect samples for analysis of water and run lab tests as needed; check pumps or booster stations, check wells for operation, productions, and water quality; maintain records and reports and operate computers; perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification.Qualifications We're Looking ForKnowledge of:All types of operation and maintenance work on water supply, treatment, and distribution facilitiesThe chemical processes involved in water treatment and relevant safety proceduresWells and pump stationsServicing, setting, and installation procedures for metersState and Federal water quality standardsSafety policies, procedures and practicesComputer operations and SCADA softwareAbility to:Interact effectively with the public and employeesOperate all necessary vehicles and equipment to meet the responsibilities of the jobCommunicate effectively in oral and written formDrive a utility truckUse a hydro lift, forklift, power tools, hand tools, water analysis equipment, and air compressorEducation:Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifyingTypical education would include a High school diploma or equivalent, with strong background in biology, chemistry, and algebraCollege classes necessary to obtain California T-3 Water Treatment and California Grade D-2 Water Distribution certificatesExperience:Typical experience would include one year experience in water treatment or water distribution and/or completion of a course of study in water treatment and/or water distribution.Special Requirements:California Water Treatment Operator Grade T-1 or T-2 Certificate and a California Water Distribution Operator Grade D-1 or D-2 Certificate. The OIT must obtain T-3 certification within the probationary periodPossession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointmentWhat To Expect From The Application And Exam ProcessYou will receive notifications pertaining to this recruitment at the e-mail address and text message number provided on your application. Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon:Positive past employment references.Review of driver history record.Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older).Passing a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test.Veterans Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score. For specific benefit information, refer to the labor agreements (MOUs) of each bargaining unit. Holidays: An average of thirteen and a half per year. Fire Association covered employees receive a payment in lieu of holidays. Holiday compensation for Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Managers Association employees has been converted to base pay. Vacation: Two weeks per year up to the fourth year of service, three weeks up to nine years of service, three and a half weeks up to fourteen years of service, four weeks up to nineteen years of service, four and a half weeks up to twenty-four years of service, five weeks after twenty-four years of service. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU. Part-time and temporary employees may be eligible for some vacation/paid time off benefits. Sick Leave: Twelve working days of sick leave are accrued each year. Unused sick leave may be credited toward retirement. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU. Health Insurance: Excellent medical, dental, vision, and life for employee and dependent, and long-term disability for employees. Retirement: Full-time employees are covered by CalPERS (formula is dependent on hire date and member status in CalPERS) and are not covered under the Social Security System Administrative Leave: Management positions are eligible to receive 40 hours of administrative leave per calendar year as authorized by the department director; additional leave up to 40 hours may be granted by the City Manager. Deferred Compensation Plans: Available for interested employees. Union Dues: Some job classifications are represented by collective bargaining units, the employees of which may choose to join and pay union dues. Part-Time Retirement Benefit Program: Part-time, seasonal, and full-time temporary employees either participate in the Social Security System or the PARS Alternate Retirement System depending upon bargaining unit assignment. SDI: All Redding Independent Employees Organization, IBEW - Maintenance and IBEW - Electric represented employees participate at their own expense.
