Please note, The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come, first-serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.Minimum Qualifications & Working ConditionsAn equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.Education: High school diploma or GEDExperience: 1-year manual labor experienceKnowledge: Understanding of hazards and common safety practicesUnderstanding of hand tools and their usesSkillsSkilled in the safe use of hand and power toolsAbilitiesEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management and contractors/vendorsAbility to understand oral and written instructionsAbility to operate or receive training on various types of tools and equipmentEffective use of computers and electronic devicesAbility to recognize hazardsLicenses and Certifications Required:State issued driver licenseAbility to obtain within first 6 monthsClass B CDL with air brake endorsementWorking ConditionsEssential Personnel: This position is considered essential so when a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.Physical Demands:Medium lifting not more than 50 pounds at a time and infrequent heavy lifting of not more than 100 poundsFrequent lifting, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, standing, stooping/crouching and climbing laddersContinuous hand/eye coordination for operation of power tools, vehicles and equipmentSpeech to maintain communication with employees and contractors/vendorsVision to read manuals, gauges and test equipmentHearing for instruction, troubleshooting and warning signalsWork Environment:Works both indoors/outdoors in all-weather conditions, with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, insects and wildlifeOccasional work in confined spacesWorks in close proximity of low, medium and high voltage equipmentWorks in close proximity of raw sewageWorks in close proximity of overhead cranesEquipment Used:Operates a variety of hand & power tools and equipment common to maintenance and repair activitiesUses computer and electronic devices for email and data inputOperates a motor vehicle, tandem axle dump truck, 1ton box tool truckThis position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tablet, tools, etc.) in the course of their employmentThe city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026.
