Job description
Welder/Fitter (Structural & Pipe)The Welder/Fitter is responsible for using hand welding or flame cutting equipment to weld or join metal components/piping or to fill holes, indentations or seams of fabricated metal products. This position is also responsible for cutting and fitting pipe or structural materials to weld.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Read and understand blue prints and ISOsExamine blueprints and plan sequence of operation, applying knowledge of geometry, effects of heat, weld shrinkage, machining and metal thicknessUse certified procedures to weld pipe or structural materials as requiredWeld components in flat, vertical or overhead positionsDetect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisorsInspect, examine and test installed systems and pipe lines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation or other methodsMake every weld as if it was to be a 100% weld free from undercut over weldingClean all welds free from B.B.'s and slagsCreate weld tickets dailyAlign parts using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars and hammersMark reference points onto floor or face block and transpose them to workpiece using measuring devices, squares, chalk and soapstoneStraighten warped or bent parts using sledge, hand torch, straightening press or bulldozerRemove high spots and cuts bevels using hand files, portable grinders and cutting torchTack weld fitted parts togetherPosition or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, bolt straps or bolt parts in position for weldingAssemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings and related equipment according to specificationsPut all information on the pipe before cutting and transfer all item numbers onto cut sheet and carry over item numbers to drop pipeCheck measurements to assure they match with drawings and obtain approval from quality control departmentObey and follow all safety rules and policiesWear all appropriate safety equipment (PPE)Perform all other duties as assigned by manager and/or supervisorMinimum qualifications and requirements include:High School diploma or equivalent education1+ year of welding/fitting experience in an Industrial settingMust be certified on PES welding proceduresBasic written and verbal communication skillsAbility to perform basic level mathematical skillsMust be reliable and have good time management skillsFor new hires, must meet all Performance Energy Services employment qualifications in force at time of hiring, including successful completion of a background investigation and pre-employment drug screenFor new hires, must successfully complete all required training by Performance Energy Services
