Job description
WelderThe Welder plays a key role in a custom job shop environment, performing MIG welding, layout, tacking, fabrication, and assembly to manufacture a variety of products built to order. This position follows detailed product specifications and project plans to produce high-quality welded components while adhering to all safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.ResponsibilitiesPerform MIG welding on a variety of custom products in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.Carry out layout, tacking, fabrication, and building functions to assemble components and finished products.Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions to determine required materials, measurements, and welding procedures.Use tape measures and apply shop math to accurately measure, cut, and fit materials prior to welding.Follow welding safety procedures at all times and consistently use provided personal protective equipment (PPE).Work effectively in a job shop environment where products are designed and built to order, adapting to different projects and requirements.Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of assigned jobs.Maintain a clean and organized work area, including welding bays and equipment.Perform other duties as assigned to support production and shop operations.Essential SkillsProficiency in MIG welding in a production or fabrication environment.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project plans, and written instructions.Strong blueprint reading skills to understand dimensions, weld symbols, and fabrication requirements.Competence using a tape measure and applying shop math for accurate measurements and layout.Knowledge of welding safety procedures and consistent use of PPE.Experience working in a welding and fabrication shop or similar job shop environment.Welding degree or equivalent hands-on welding experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience as a MIG welder in a job shop or custom fabrication setting.Familiarity with working in multi-bay welding shops and sharing equipment when needed.Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive welding and fabrication tasks.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.Reliability and willingness to take on additional duties as assigned.Why Work Here?Employees benefit from a supportive culture that values work-life balance and long-term tenure, demonstrated by relatively low turnover. The standard first shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with 10-minute breaks at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., and a lunch break at 12:00 p.m. Work is performed primarily while standing, often for up to two hours at a time between breaks, and involves regular use of welding equipment, measuring tools, and fabrication tools in a job shop environment where all products are designed to order. Appropriate PPE, including safety glasses and work shoes, is required and supported through reimbursement.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Prior Lake, MN.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
