Job description
Radiologic TechnologistThis role performs digital X-ray studies on patients per the orders placed by providers. This is a multi-skilled clinical professional who works within the scope of practice to assist in patient care under the direction of the provider.Essential Job FunctionsPerforms provider ordered radiographic examinations for specific anatomical parts allowed by obtained licensureConducts proper patient positioning, immobilization, utilizing appropriate radiation protectionDetermines and selects proper electronic and technical factors which safeguard the patient, x-ray tube, and equipment, and reports immediately any malfunction, necessary adjustments, or repairs of equipment to supervisorAssists in medical documentation and clinical assistant duties as directed and supervised by the ProviderParticipates in promotion of positive culture and teamwork and demonstrates excellence in care in all interactions, for both patients and internal teamsMaintains a safe and supportive environment by keeping the work area, exam rooms, and equipment in clean, orderly, and safe mannerUnderstands and adheres to the legal responsibilities and requirements within the roleTravels to other facilities if necessary or adjusting work hours to meet patient care needs as directed by the managerPerforms cross-functional duties as needed, including front desk duties such as registration, scheduling, answering phones and other duties not limited to scribing, ordering of suppliesLicensing/CertificationLimited Scope Radiology Licensure or General Machine X-Ray Operator Licensure per state requirement (required)BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, required prior to independent patient care)EducationHigh School Diploma or GED (required)Must be a student in final year or graduate in a formal radiologic technology training program (preferred)Work Experience1 year of healthcare or clerical physician practice experience (preferred)TrainingEPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred)Patient PopulationDemonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.Infant (1-12 months)Pediatrics (1-12 years)Adolescents (13-17 years)Adults (18-64 years)Geriatrics (65 years and older)Working ConditionsPeriods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.General office environment.May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse.May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids.May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials.May be exposed to adverse weather conditions; cold, hot, dust, wind, etc.May have periods of constant interruptions.*Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.SkillsVerbal and written communication skillsAttention to detailCritical thinkingProblem solving skillsAbility to work independentlyConflict resolutionCommunication with customersEvaluate employee performance and behaviors and escalate as necessaryBasic computing skillsKnowledge of billing operations including ICD-10 and CPT codingMedical terminologyJudgment in selection of alternative courses of actionAdapts standard principles to new or changed conditionsActive listeningHuman anatomyXray equipmentXray proceduresPatient positioningPatient safetyDocumentationElectronic Medical Records EMRAs a Bon Secours Mercy Health associate, you're part of a Mission that matters.
