Job description
Engineering TechnicianIPG's Medical Products Group is focused on developing next-generation medical products and disposable instruments based on IPG's state-of-the-art lasers. The Engineering Technician is responsible for assembly and testing of medical instruments and prototypes, including single use.The Assembler II performs a variety of assembly, fabrication, inspection, and testing tasks to build and support mechanical, electronic, and/or electro-mechanical products and subassemblies. This role works with moderate independence to assemble components, follow detailed work instructions, and ensure products meet quality and performance standards. The position may support multiple stages of the production process, including assembly, wiring, soldering, testing, inspection, and packaging.Essential Duties and Responsibilities are representative, but not all inclusive of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.The following duties are representative but not all-inclusive:Assemble, align, and join components, parts, and subassemblies using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.Install, route, and connect wiring, cables, and electronic components per diagrams, schematics, and work instructions.Perform soldering and basic fabrication tasks to complete assemblies.Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and written procedures to ensure accurate assembly.Conduct quality checks and inspections to ensure products meet specifications and company standards.Operate basic test equipment to verify functionality of assemblies and finished products.Support packaging and final inspection processes, including verifying product accuracy and recording results as needed.Maintain organized workstations, track materials, and ensure inventory accuracy at the workstation level.Handle materials and equipment safely, including use of lifting devices such as pallet jacks where applicable.Follow all safety procedures, including MPI, OSHA, MSDS, and PPE requirements.Troubleshoot and resolve routine assembly issues; escalate more complex problems to supervision.May perform work in specialized environments (e.g., cleanroom) depending on department.Qualifications & RequirementsEducation: High school or equivalent; vocational school graduate preferred.Experience: Typically 1–2 years of assembly experience or progression from Assembler IExperience in mechanical, electronic, or electro-mechanical assembly preferred for some areas as needed.SkillsFully competent as Assembler IAbility to read and interpret work instructions, blueprints, and schematicsBasic soldering and assembly skillsFamiliarity with hand tools, power tools, and basic test equipmentBasic computer skills (data entry, Microsoft Office, production systems)Strong attention to detail and quality focusAbility to follow standardized processes while working independentlyPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, bend, reach, and walk for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 15–75 lbs. depending on departmentManual dexterity for detailed assembly and inspection tasksCore CompetenciesAttention to detail and quality orientationProblem-solving and sound judgmentAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAdaptability and willingness to learn new processes and technologiesResults-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasksWork EnvironmentManufacturing environment with exposure to equipment and materialsMay include cleanroom or controlled environments depending on roleRequires adherence to all safety protocols and use of PPE
