High school graduation or equivalent
Must have an AA Degree or minimum of 48 semester units, or 60 quarter units, or have passed the Paraprofessional test (CODESP). Enrollment and progress towards Bachelor's degree desired.
Valid TB test
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Able to read and write the second language and English
Have knowledge of a culture of second language (e.g Spanish)
Maintain current first aid/CPR certification
The program goal of the Bilingual Assistant is to develop proficiency in English in each student as effectively and efficiently as possible, promote students' positive self-concepts and to help promote cross-cultural understanding.
Bilingual Assistant will, under supervision of the site administrator(s) and direction of a Certificated employee perform a variety of necessary duties of a responsible nature to assist in the planning and implementation of an effective learning program for children.
Knowledge of:
Appropriate English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic concepts.
General classroom procedures and equipment/computer skills.
Operational procedures and policies, rules, regulations, and legal provision pertaining to student behavior and confidentiality.
Basic instructional methods and techniques
Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct
Oral and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Basic record-keeping techniques
Ability to:

Perform a variety of translation duties

Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance.
1. Work with small groups of children or individuals as needed.
2. Work with Technology as to EL Data input
3. Assist teacher in preparation and duplication of learning materials; collect, assemble and file instructional materials
4. Administer and score a variety of tests according to established guidelines.
5. Under teacher direction, assess student need and progress.
6. Assist students, Certificated staff, and/or parents with communication problems resulting from limited knowledge of English.
7. Provide interpretational/translation for parents, school personnel and students during phone calls, meetings, parent conferences, and/or assemblies.
8. Assist in the planning and implementation of multi-cultural activities.
9. Become familiar with appropriate texts and classroom instructional materials.
10. Independently perform a wide variety of work.
11. Foster greater understanding within the community by maintaining open communication with results, and district surveys.
12. Attend staff meetings as required.
13. Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support and general guidance.
14. Attend and participate in District planned, sponsored trainings and in-service activates.
15. Performs other duties responsibilities as required by the Superintendent or designee, in order to accomplish the goals and objectives of the district.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement if applicable. The evaluation will be completed by the Site Principal or his/her designee.
