The City of Flagstaff is now hiring 8 Custodial Workers to make a meaningful impact across our community by helping maintain the facilities that serve residents, visitors, and City staff every day. We are seeking reliable, safety-focused individuals who take pride in creating clean, healthy, and welcoming environments. Under general supervision, Custodial Workers are responsible for routine cleaning and maintenance of city-owned buildings, including offices, restrooms, public spaces, and specialized facilities. This important role supports approximately 900,000 square feet of City facilities and plays a direct part in ensuring safe, sanitary, and well-maintained spaces for employees and the public. Apply today!Examples of the Work PerformedSweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, and sanitizes floors, restrooms, offices, lobbies, hallways, and common areasCleans and disinfects restrooms, including fixtures, partitions, and floors; restocks paper products and soap dispensersEmpties and removes trash and recycling; replaces liners as neededWipes down surfaces, windows, mirrors, doors, and furniture on assigned schedulePerforms periodic deep-cleaning tasks including floor stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet extractionOperates commercial cleaning equipment including floor buffers, auto-scrubbers, wet/dry vacuums, and pressure washersReports damage, needed repairs, or safety hazards to the supervisor promptlyAssists with setup and cleanup for special events at city facilitiesHandles, stores, and disposes of cleaning chemicals in accordance with material safety data sheets (MSDS) and city policyMaintains custodial storage closets in a clean, organized, and locked condition at all timesCompletes daily task logs and other required documentation accuratelyParticipates in required safety meetings, training programs, and performance evaluationsPerforms related duties as requiredMinimum RequirementsHigh school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificateOne (1) year of custodial, janitorial, or building maintenance experience; ORAny equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the positionValid driver's licenseDesired Experience and TrainingExperience performing custodial, janitorial, or building cleaning duties in a public, commercial, municipal, educational, or similar environmentExperience operating and maintaining commercial custodial equipment, supplies, and toolsTraining or experience in workplace safety practices, including chemical handling, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment (PPE)Experience using electronic work order systems, mobile devices, or other technology to receive and track assigned workOther RequirementsMust possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona class D driver's licenseRegular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of service.Must be willing and able to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.Incumbents are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and post-employment random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol testing.Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection, and comply with the city's respiratory protection program, including fit-testing requirements, if applicableCurrent Compensation and BenefitsWe are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and positive work environment.
