Job description

The Senior Director, Information Technology will serve as the organization's senior technology leader, with responsibility for enterprise IT strategy, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud transformation, MSP governance, and technology integration related to mergers and acquisitions. This individual will work closely with executive leadership, business unit leaders, and the organization's ownership stakeholders. This is not a traditional infrastructure or day-to-day IT operations role. The successful candidate will be a business-minded technology leader who can establish strategy and governance while maintaining the technical credibility necessary to evaluate architecture, security, infrastructure, and vendor decisions. The Senior Director will inherit an existing IT environment and outsourced support model while having significant opportunity to shape the future-state technology organization, operating model, and roadmap.

Responsibilities:

Strategic IT Leadership

Develop and execute the enterprise technology strategy and multi-year IT roadmap.

Align technology investments with business priorities, acquisition activity, risk, and growth objectives.

Establish governance, accountability, and operating discipline across the IT function.

Evaluate the current IT organization and determine appropriate future-state capabilities, resources, and operating models.

Translate complex technology issues into clear business recommendations for executive stakeholders and ownership.

M&A and Technology Integration

Serve as the technology leader throughout the acquisition lifecycle, including diligence, Day 1 readiness, and post-close integration.

Assess acquisition targets across infrastructure, cybersecurity, applications, licensing, vendors, identity, and technology risk.

Develop technology integration strategies, timelines, budgets, and cost models.

Lead post-close infrastructure, security, identity, and systems integration activities.

Build and continuously improve a repeatable technology acquisition and integration playbook.

Ensure acquired businesses can be integrated efficiently while maintaining appropriate security and governance standards.

Governance & IT Operating Model

Own and optimize relationships with outsourced technology and managed services providers.

Establish SLAs, KPIs, performance expectations, governance processes, and accountability measures.

Evaluate service quality, responsiveness, cost effectiveness, and scalability.

Lead regular vendor performance reviews and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.

Evaluate the appropriate balance of internal versus outsourced IT capabilities as the organization grows.

Improve visibility and forecasting related to IT spending, licensing, hardware, services, and infrastructure.

Infrastructure, Cloud & Architecture

Establish enterprise infrastructure and architecture standards across a distributed, multi-location environment.

Develop and execute a cloud transformation roadmap, including migration of legacy and on-premises environments.

Lead infrastructure modernization and standardization initiatives.

Oversee enterprise identity, endpoint management, networking, connectivity, and device compliance.

Ensure technology architecture can efficiently support new locations and acquired businesses.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

Own enterprise cybersecurity strategy, governance, and risk management.

Advance identity and access management capabilities, including SSO, SAML, SCIM, MFA, identity lifecycle management, and access governance.

Promote zero-trust and least-privilege security principles where appropriate.

Establish consistent security standards across corporate and acquired environments.

Support security audits, compliance requirements, and ongoing cybersecurity maturity initiatives.

Financial & Business Partnership

Own technology budgeting, forecasting, and investment planning.

Develop reliable IT cost estimates for acquisitions and integration initiatives.

Identify opportunities to optimize third-party partners, licensing, procurement, infrastructure, and technology spending.

Partner closely with Finance, HR, Operations, M&A, Compliance, and business leadership.

Establish clear ownership and governance for enterprise applications, integrations, security requirements, and technology standards.

Qualifications:

10+ years of progressive information technology experience with significant leadership responsibility.

Experience operating within a growth-oriented organization undergoing expansion and transformation.

Demonstrated experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, including technology diligence and post-close integration.

Proven success managing outsourced technology providers and technology service providers relationships.

Experience supporting distributed, multi-site technology environments.

Demonstrated success developing technology strategies, roadmaps, governance frameworks, and scalable operating models.

Strong understanding of identity and access management, endpoint management, enterprise networking, cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity principles.

Ability to balance strategic leadership with a willingness to engage directly in technical and operational details when necessary.

Preferred Experience:

Experience integrating multiple businesses or locations following acquisitions.

Experience leading cloud transformation and legacy infrastructure modernization initiatives.

Background supporting field-based, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, equipment, services, or other distributed operating environments.

Experience with Microsoft Azure and modern identity and endpoint management technologies.

Exposure to ISO 27001, SOC 2, or comparable cybersecurity and compliance frameworks.

Familiarity with ERP, HCM, finance, and other enterprise business applications.

CISSP, ITIL, PMP, Azure, cloud security, or other relevant technology certifications.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a business-first technology leader who combines strategic thinking, financial acumen, and executive presence with strong technical credibility.

This individual has operated successfully in an environment where technology must keep pace with rapid organizational change. They understand how to integrate acquisitions, govern outsourced providers, modernize infrastructure, improve cybersecurity, and create structure where processes may still be evolving.

They are equally comfortable discussing technology strategy and investment priorities with executive leadership as they are challenging a third-party vendors recommendation, evaluating an acquisition's technology environment, or working through the details of an infrastructure modernization initiative.

This is an opportunity to shape the future-state technology function of a growing, acquisition-driven organization and build the technology foundation that will support its next stage of expansion.
