Equipment Operator IEmployer: City of MidlandSalary: $45,500.00 AnnuallyLocation: City Hall, Midland, TX, TXJob Type: Full-timeDepartment: Engineering ServicesDivision: Traffic OperationsOpening Date: 09/08/2026Scope of WorkEquipment Operator I is an entry-level Equipment Operator Position. Equipment Operator I will perform manual and unskilled labor on traffic signs and markings, which involves the use of acquired skills. Operate several types of light and heavy vehicles, equipment, and tools. Do related work and training as required. Responsible for the installation and maintenance of devices that provide for the orderly and predictable movement of all motorized, non-motorized and pedestrian traffic.Essential Job DutiesPerforms pre-trip/post-trip vehicle/equipment inspections.Performs daily preventative maintenance of motorized equipment or hand tools.Inspect the overall safety of various job projects. Maintain safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment.Maintains tools and equipment in good and safe operating condition.Keeps jobsite and vehicles/equipment neat and in order.Performs any related duties needed to complete projects.Maintains records of work performed such as work schedules, status reports and records of work orders.Paints lane lines on the streets and thoroughfares.Paints designated curbs.Installs and maintains thermoplastic roadway markings and signage throughout the city.Installs and maintains lane marking devices and barricades.Assists with the proper set up of work zone traffic control.Fulfill on-call duties as required and outlined on Traffic Operations on-call roster.Assists with the maintenance of Traffic Operations building and grounds.Assists other City divisions and departments as needed.Trims trees in order to clear sign obstructions.Fabricates SignsAttends monthly safety meetingsKeep work location and vehicle(s)/equipment in order.Ensure all safety equipment is being utilized daily.Assists in loading and unloading to transported material and equipment.Address citizen concerns on the job site.Inspect the overall safety of various job projects. Maintain safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment.Performs other related duties as assigned.Physical and Environmental ConditionsThe incumbent works in an outside environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Must be able to lift working materials several times daily.Required QualificationsMinimum Education & Work ExperienceHigh School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)6 months experienceOr an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.Education/ Experience:1+ years related experienceKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of operation and maintenance requirements of power-driven equipmentKnowledge of basic safe work practicesKnowledge in care, operation and maintenance of various power tools and equipmentSkill in operating light and heavy equipmentSkill in general maintenance and repairSkill in effective oral and written communicationAbility to operate a variety of power-driven equipmentAbility to work independently in the absence of supervisionAbility to work in a team environmentLicenses & CertificationsValid Class C Texas driver's licenseCompetenciesAdaptability/FlexibilityCustomer ServiceDependabilityQualitySelf-DevelopmentTeamworkTechnical SkillsMonday – Friday; 8 Hour workday; Overtime may be required as needed.Benefits2:1 Retirement Plan with TMRS Educational Tuition Assistance Program Public Service Loan Forgiveness Employer Midland Municipal Employee Credit Union Competitive pay Medical/Dental/Vision Plan PTO accrual Paid holidays
