Job Description & Requirements Specialty: General Surgery Discipline: Nurse Practitioner Start Date: ASAP Duration: 26 weeks Shift: rotating Employment Type: Locum Tenens Trauma Surgery APP Locum Opportunity – Minnesota A Level I Trauma Center is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide trauma surgery coverage beginning as soon as credentialed. This position primarily functions as a trauma hospitalist role, managing admitted trauma patients, participating in trauma activations, and supporting emergency department consultations.

Open rates Assignment Details Coverage Period: May – July (with potential for full-time coverage) Schedule: Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM In-house coverage only No call responsibilities Practice Setting Level I Adult Trauma Center with Pediatric Trauma Care Inpatient Trauma Service Epic EMR Trauma Surgeon coverage available 24/7 APP functions with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating with attending trauma surgeons Clinical Responsibilities Respond to trauma alerts in the Emergency Department Evaluate and admit trauma patients Daily rounding and management of admitted patients Facilitate patient discharges Provide comprehensive inpatient management of trauma and surgical patients Participate in trauma activations and emergency consultations Follow established clinical protocols and documentation requirements Patient Population Adult and adolescent patients primarily Pediatric patients may also be encountered Typical patient age range: newborn through geriatric Patient Volume Non-ICU census: 10–14 patients ICU census: approximately 6 patients New admissions/ED consults: 2–15 patients per 24-hour period Required Qualifications Required Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP or AGNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) Active Minnesota License ACLS Certification ATLS Certification PALS Certification DEA Minimum one year of inpatient APP experience At least 2 years of clinical experience in Trauma Surgery – Required Ability to work night shifts (7p–7:30a) Preferred Experience Trauma Surgery Surgical Critical Care Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Orthopedic Trauma Preferred Procedures & Skills Non-Invasive Ventilation Management (BiPAP/CPAP) Mechanical Ventilation Management Chest Tube Placement Central Line Placement Arterial Line Placement Minor Laceration Repair and Suturing Support Structure 24/7 Trauma Surgeon coverage Specialty backup available as needed Collaborative multidisciplinary trauma team Additional Requirements Current Self-Query NPDB report required at presentation Local candidates preferred Must meet all credentialing and certification requirements at time of submission WhiteCoat Locums Job ID A64918NP.
