nPosition Summary: The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is responsible for providing nursing care of specific patients under the direction of a physician. Follows stablished nursing standards, procedures, and practices and give specific patient care direction to nursing and other staff in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.
nEssential responsibilities:
nnnFollow established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
n
nnProvide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists as required and adjust treatment processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
n
nnPerform CPR when necessary.
n
nnMonitor medical condition of patients and report and document changes appropriate to scope of practice.
n
nnDiagnose and treat patients appropriately, exercising independent judgment, initiating an effective course of action.
n
nnPerform daily information rounds and prepare notes on residents assigned to medical housing.
n
nnPerform basic procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of dressings and casts.
n
nnOrder diagnostic and therapeutic services and assess efficiency, documenting results and making needed changes.
n
nnConsult with facility medical director in a collaborative and cooperative relationship.
n
nnMaintain accurate and comprehensive charting on patient medical records.
n
nnEnhance professional development through participation in educational programs, in-service and workshops.
n
nnAttend scheduled staff meetings; promote communications and proper flow of relevant information in the medical unit.
n
nnUtilize established corporate, facility and corrections policies and procedures in making decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position.
n
nnImplement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.
n
nnMaintain security and confidentiality of all patient medical records; observes applicable HIPAA rules.
n
nnClosely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
n
nnComply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those covering controlled substances.
n
nnFacilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services.
n
nnComply with requirements of applicable regulations, laws, policies, standards and contracts.
n
nnPerform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
n
nnMaintain equipment and supplies.
n
nnRequires long periods of walking and standing.
n
nnRegular attendance required.
n
nnPromote the development of positive social skills among staff and detainees through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
n
nnMaintain accountability of residents and property; adhere to safety practices.
n
n nEducation and Experience Requirements:
nnnGraduation from an accredited program and current licensure in the state of New Mexico as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant required.
n
nnAll education related to the licensure is required. Any additional licenses or certifications (i.e. DEA registration) required.
n
nnTwo (2) to five (5) years experience is recommended, preferably in the correctional environment or emergency medicine.
n
nnCurrent CPR certification required.
n
nnValid driver’s license in the state of New Mexico or Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
