Job TitleAtlantic County Vocational School District Position FunctionUnder direct supervision of the Building Security Supervisor and the Principal to patrol school buildings to ensure a safe and secure building environment, as well as the personal safety of students, staff, and visitors.Essential Functions:Provides for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors and School District property in accordance with School District policies to provide an educational climate which is conducive to learning.Conducts ongoing security patrols of the building.Reports concerns and incidents which may require corrective action to Building Security Supervisor and Principal.Assists visitors to the school in receiving proper direction, assists in maintaining log of all visitors, and prevents unauthorized persons from entering the building.Additional Duties:Performs related duties as required.Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of best practices in building security and safety.Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal, security guards and others.Ability to describe orally or in writing security problems as needed.Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.Ability to maintain a professional, calm and authoritative manner when challenged by students.Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:Works in standard school building environment.Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.Physical ability to separate students or others involved in altercations.Qualifications Profile:Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.Successful experience in security or law enforcement.Experience working with adolescents preferred and the public school system.Knowledge of security measures, fire prevention, and crowd control.Ability to maintain order and to work with groups on matters of security.Must possess valid NJ Drivers License.Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.Hourly Rate is $24.50 per hour & Sick Time
