Pool Maintenance AideThe City of Davis Parks & Community Services Department operates four aquatic complexes, comprising of nine individual pools and two splash pads. The Pool Maintenance Aide position assists with basic pool maintenance and repair tasks associated with the ongoing operations of the five aquatic complexes. This position is supervised by the Aquatics Facilities Supervisor.Examples of DutiesResponsibilities (includes but is not limited to):Pool maintenance/service hours are typically between 6:00 am-10:00 am, Monday-Friday and/or Saturday-Sunday, hours may vary depending on use and needsCleaning pool deck equipment, splash pad features, slides and pool buildings and shower facilitiesVacuums swimming pools, cleans pool tiles, and empties skimmer basketsAssists with portable vacuums, salt and other pool suppliesAssists with needed repairs and equipment replacement as neededAssists with general grounds maintenance such as raking and turf maintenance, hosing off pool decks and emptying garbage and recycling containersDrives vehicles to transport materials, tools, and equipment as needed; clean and maintain shared park maintenance equipmentAssures that all equipment and facilities are safely and properly prepared and maintainedKeeps work environments clean and organizedPerforms other related duties as neededTypical QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Must be 21 years of age or olderMust have formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performanceKnowledge of basic methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in swimming pool maintenance workKnowledge of basic principles and practices of work safetyAbility to perform heavy manual labor, and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and creativity in the job positionAbility to swim at a level considered water safe and be comfortable being in and around swimming poolsAbility to establish and maintain positive working relationships and communication with co-workers, other City staff and community membersPrior work experience or training in pool maintenance operations is highly desirableA valid California Class C driver's license is highly preferredPhysical/Sensory Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This is an active position requiring the ability to sit, bend, squat, climb, balance, stoop, keel, crouch, crawl, twist, and reach extensively when installing or repairing equipment; occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs, frequent lifting or moving objects up to 50 lbs.; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with customers and other staff; and visual acuity to record information accurately and make observations. Work is done both indoors and out, with exposure to heat, often over 100 degrees, sun, noise, dust, pollens, traffic, and slip hazards when near water, and exposure to blood borne pathogens.
