Job description
Principal Structural Engineer – Resilience Water Team (Houston, Texas)
We are looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to lead water and wastewater structural design and construction projects, focusing on municipal and industrial Water/Wastewater and Water Resources infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Provide geographic leadership for the structural engineering team.
Make staffing and strategy decisions.
Manage junior and mid‑level structural engineering staff.
Organize and conduct engineering investigations, calculations, and planning work for projects with clearly defined scope.
Lead the development of calculations, plans, specifications, RFPs, and other contract documents.
Work directly with engineering disciplines, project staff, clients, and subcontractors to coordinate meetings, present to clients, and prepare reports.
Manage production of engineering and construction drawings, specifications, bid packages, and cost estimates.
Function as Engineer of Record, Task Manager, or Project Engineer to manage budgets, schedules, deliverables, permits, scopes of work, and project coordination.
Required Qualifications
15 years of structural engineering experience in Water/Wastewater.
Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (structural emphasis).
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Structural or Civil/Structural.
Key Attributes
Strong structural analysis and design skills, proficient with STAAD Pro and other structural software.
Excellent technical writing and editing abilities.
Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
Proficiency in AutoCAD/REVIT for design documentation.
Working knowledge of building codes and standards (IBC, ACI, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
At least 20 years of practical experience in Water/Wastewater structural engineering.
Professional Engineer license across multiple states, or Structural Engineer (SE) or NCEES record with MLSE.
Completed NCEES 16‑Hour structural exam.
Proficiency in MATHCAD.

Salary range: $130,000 – $185,000 per year, based on experience, education, and location.
