Job description

We are now hiring for a Residential Project Consultant to meet with homeowners at scheduled appointments throughout the Kansas City area, with a daily commute to our office in Johnson County, KS. This position requires you to drive a company vehicle and is designed for someone who enjoys working with people, learning a specialized trade, and helping homeowners make informed decisions about meaningful projects in their homes.

This is an in-home residential sales position with company-provided appointments—no cold calling, door knocking, or purchasing your own leads. Since Full Service Chimney is a locally owned and well-established company, customers contact us for help evaluating, repairing, restoring, or improving their fireplace or chimney system.

Internally, we call our Sales Consultants " Concierges" because their role extends beyond presenting a proposal—they guide homeowners through the entire decision-making process.

Position Overview

Job Type: Full-time

Location: Spring Hill, KS / In-home appointments throughout the Kansas City area

Training Pay: $20/hour

Annual Earnings After Training: $70,000–$85,000+ typical earning range for trained independent Consultants; high performers can exceed $120,000 with experience

Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday; daily hours may vary based on scheduled homeowner appointments

What Makes This Sales Role Different

Company-provided, scheduled homeowner appointments

No cold calling or door knocking

No purchased leads

Established local company and reputation

Paid technical training

Opportunity to earn industry certifications

Consultative rather than transactional sales

Projects ranging from routine repairs to substantial home improvements

The role is comparable to working as a consultant in high-end remodeling , custom cabinetry, windows and doors, or other residential improvement industries where technical knowledge, professionalism, trust, and communication are just as important as sales ability.

What the Position Looks Like

Most days are spent meeting with homeowners at scheduled appointments throughout the Kansas City area . Most appointments begin with a paid inspection or evaluation requested by the homeowner.

You will inspect fireplace and chimney systems, photograph and document conditions, discuss what the homeowner is hoping to accomplish, and explain the options available when repairs or improvements are needed.

Projects can range from routine service and smaller repairs to significant fireplace renovations, chimney and fireplace restoration, liner systems, masonry projects, and other substantial home improvements.

The goal is to become knowledgeable enough to help homeowners understand:

The type of system they currently have

What condition it is in

What needs attention

What options are available

The differences between those options

What solution makes the most sense for their home

You’ll then prepare and present those options and help the homeowner determine how they would like to move forward.

We Will Teach You the Trade

Previous fireplace or chimney experience is neither required nor expected.

Every new Consultant begins with approximately two weeks of hands‑on technical training at our facility. Training includes exposure to:

Fireplace and chimney construction

Masonry and chimney repairs

Chimney liners

Crowns and waterproofing systems

Flashing and exterior components

Fireplace installations

Scaffolding and jobsite setup

Tools, equipment, and safety

The repair methods our crews perform in the field

We believe someone representing our work should understand how the work is actually performed.

Following initial training, you will work alongside our Sales Manager as an assistant . You’ll participate in real customer appointments, periodically assist our repair/install division, continue technical and inspection training, and study toward industry certification.

As your knowledge and confidence develop, you’ll gradually take responsibility for more of the appointment until you’re prepared to manage consultations independently.

What You’ll Do

Meet with homeowners at scheduled in-home appointments

Perform fireplace and chimney inspections, including photographs, measurements, and documentation

Identify homeowner concerns, priorities, and project goals

Explain inspection findings and technical information in understandable terms

Develop and present appropriate repair or improvement options

Help homeowners compare solutions, materials, scope, process, and pricing

Prepare proposals and guide customers through the decision‑making process

Maintain accurate customer and job documentation

Coordinate with our office and production teams

Continue developing technical, industry, and sales knowledge

Who Does Well in This Position

This role tends to be a good fit for someone who:

Holds themselves accountable

Presents themselves professionally

Enjoys meeting and talking with new people

Communicates clearly and confidently

Asks good questions and actively listens

Can explain complicated subjects simply

Enjoys learning how products and systems work

Is organized and detail‑oriented

Is comfortable discussing larger home improvement projects

Takes ownership of their work and performance

Responds well to coaching and feedback

Is motivated by personal growth

Wants a career with both independence and responsibility

You should be equally comfortable having a conversation at a kitchen table, inspecting a fireplace, reviewing photographs on a tablet, and discussing the different ways a homeowner could approach a project.

Previous Experience

Sales experience is helpful but not required.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

Residential remodeling

Custom cabinetry or kitchen and bath design

Windows and doors

HVAC or other residential services

Flooring or countertops

New‑home or construction‑related sales

Interior or exterior home improvement

Other professional customer‑facing roles

We’re interested in people who can build trust, learn technical information, and communicate clearly and professionally to help guide customers through decisions. Strong candidates are career‑minded individuals and may come from either a sales background or a technical/customer‑service background.

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Professional communication and appearance

Comfortable using tablets, mobile applications, and digital documentation

Willingness to obtain required industry certification

Ability to safely use ladders and inspect residential fireplace and chimney systems

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors

Dependable attendance and transportation

Ability to meet applicable pre‑employment requirements

Compensation Package

Pay:

$20 per hour during the initial training period, typically 3–6 months.

Once trained, certified, and able to independently perform appointments, Consultants typically earn approximately $70,000–$85,000+ annually , with high performers exceeding $120,000 as their experience and performance grow.

This position offers increased earning potential as technical knowledge, responsibility, and performance develop.

Benefits:

Medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% employer‑paid employee premiums and up to $250 toward dependent coverage.
