Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.Job OverviewThe Seasonal Float Fabricator contributes to the construction of floats, props, and other scenic elements for Macy's iconic events, including the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Spring Flower Shows, 4th of July Fireworks, Santaland, and other seasonal elements.What You Will DoWorks as a welder, fabricator, on floats and other studio projectsActs as crew member on installations, set ups and take downs.Acts as a crew member for parade set up and other events as neededActs as a crew member for the installation and implementation of special projects: Holiday Displays, Marquee Elements and Flower ShowCollaborates with the Production and Engineering teams on building methods and executionPerforms other tasks and duties as assigned by the Shop Manager and/or production managerSkills You Will NeedCarpentry, Welding, Painting, or Sculpting: Knowledge or experience in one of the following: carpentry, welding, painting, or sculpting is requiredTechnical Skills: Ability to work as a carpenter, welder, sculptor, or painter on floats and other studio projectsReading Scale Drawings: Ability to read scale drawings and use scale modelsMultitasking and Collaboration: Ability to multitask and collaborate with multiple artists and buildersFinish Work: Ability to perform "professional level" finish work on all projectsWelding and Rigging: General knowledge of welding/metal fabrication and general rigging is a plusElectrics, Plumbing, and Hydraulics: Knowledge or experience in electrics, plumbing, and hydraulics is a plusWho You AreCandidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.Experience in theater sets, construction, or display shop a plusMust be able to work in a production shop environmentEffective written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft reports and other communications; present to management and internal and external business partners; interpret technical documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to translate drawings to material, cut lists, and orders.This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 50 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level.
