Security Engineer II | Cybersecurity Engineering
Chicago Area | Hybrid, Onsite Only a Few Days per Month | Contract-to-Hire or Direct Hire
I’m hiring a Security Engineer II for a large healthcare organization in the Chicago area. This is a great opportunity for a hands-on security professional who wants ownership , not a narrowly siloed security role.
The team is looking for someone who started with a solid IT foundation and progressed into cybersecurity. You’ll take technical ownership of 2–3 enterprise security applications , lead and support security projects, improve controls, automate processes, troubleshoot issues, and help determine the operational strategy for the technologies you own.
This is not a SOC monitoring-only position . They want an engineer who can get into the technology and drive it.
What I’m looking for:
8–10 years of overall IT experience preferred, including 4+ years in cybersecurity
Hands-on Security Analyst/Security Engineer background
Experience implementing, administering and owning enterprise security tools
Strong automation/scripting experience with Python and/or PowerShell
Security incident investigation and response
Vulnerability management and threat detection
Endpoint, network, application and cloud security
Experience with technologies such as SIEM, EDR/XDR, DLP, PAM, IDS/IPS, CSPM, CNAPP or SOAR
Strong documentation and process-development skills
Ability to independently lead security projects and work across IT teams
Bachelor's degree required
Security certification such as CISSP, Security+ or similar
Understanding of NIST, HIPAA and PCI
Experience with any of these technologies will get my attention:
CrowdStrike Falcon / EDR / DLP | Tenable Security Center | Microsoft E5 | Delinea PAM | Qualys | xDome/Medigate | Prisma | Cisco FTD
Location: Chicagoland. Hybrid with onsite meetings only a couple of days per month at Chicago-area locations.
