Job description
Senior Director of Consumption Economics, Finance
Lumen Technologies seeks an experienced leader to architect and lead the company’s consumption economics strategy and financial modeling for Lumen Digital. The role owns enterprise‑wide frameworks that translate product roadmap, consumption patterns, and pricing strategies into measurable financial outcomes—revenue, margins, and full P&L forecasts.
The Role
As the senior director, you will drive strategic alignment between consumption insights and corporate growth objectives, embed dynamic, data‑driven models into decision‑making across Product, Sales, Customer Success, and Corporate Finance, and influence senior leadership and external stakeholders with actionable insights that guide Lumen’s transition to a scalable, consumption‑based business model.
Key Responsibilities
Design and maintain enterprise‑grade consumption models that link usage metrics (e.g., bandwidth, API calls) to revenue, margin, and profitability projections.
Develop driver‑based financial models with scenario and sensitivity analysis to stress‑test strategic options.
Forecast consumption demand trends and translate insights into actionable strategies.
Quantify and track cost of acquisition and lifecycle economics across usage‑based product lines.
Build investment cases linking incremental growth spend to consumption, margin, and payback.
Decompose operating margin drivers to inform Capex prioritization and resource allocation.
Establish consumption economics KPIs for internal and external reporting.
Benchmark against industry trends in SaaS, cloud, and infrastructure‑as‑a‑service models.
Drive adoption of consumption models in executive planning cadences and business reviews.
Serve as the financial thought leader for consumption economics across the organization.
Partner with cross‑functional leaders to align consumption insights with corporate forecasts and strategic targets.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business; MBA strongly preferred.
Experience : 10+ years in financial planning, pricing strategy, or consumption economics modeling in SaaS, cloud, or digital services.
Proven track record in enterprise‑level P&L management, scenario forecasting, and usage‑based financial modeling.
Skills : Advanced proficiency in modeling tools (Excel, Python, R) and data analytics.
Exceptional financial acumen—forecasting, variance analysis, and strategic planning.
Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior leadership.
Excellent communication skills—able to distill complex models into clear narratives.
Collaborative mindset with experience leading cross‑functional initiatives.
