Senior Roku Software Engineer – Fandango
Fandango is seeking a Senior Roku Software Engineer to join our APEX Video Player team. In this role you will design, build, and maintain Roku video playback technologies, including ownership of our Video Player SDK, while collaborating closely with experienced engineers across platforms to deliver reliable, high‑quality streaming experiences to millions of users.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain a Roku Video Player SDK using BrightScript, SceneGraph, and Roku platform tools.
Lead and contribute to the architecture of a scalable, cross‑platform video playback solution.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues across the video playback pipeline.
Write clean, performant, and maintainable code following best engineering practices.
Participate in and lead code reviews, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
Partner with QA and operations teams to reproduce, diagnose, and resolve production issues.
Create and maintain technical documentation to support team knowledge sharing and long‑term maintainability.
Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in streaming media and playback technologies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
3+ years of professional Roku software development experience.
Strong proficiency in BrightScript and SceneGraph.
Hands‑on experience implementing DASH and/or HLS streaming on Roku.
Solid understanding of video playback concepts, streaming protocols, and performance optimization.
Experience with web, mobile, or other streaming platforms is a plus.
Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment.
Additional Information
Fully Remote: This role is designated as fully remote, meaning it is expected to be performed from a non‑VERSANT worksite, typically an employee’s residence. Occasional travel is required and can range from within the country to global.
