Summary
About the Position: The Social Worker (Clinical) provides support to the A. T. Augusta Military Medical Center in Fort Belvoir VA, at the Fairfax Mental Health clinic in Fairfax, VA helping ensure consistent, high-quality patient care to children and adolescents and facility operations. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Responsibilities
Provide treatment to highly complex cases in which children and adolescents are severely impacted by moderate to severe psychiatric diagnoses.
Collect biopsychosocial information about patients through interview, case history, observation techniques, and other assessment methods.
Analyze information collected to identify symptoms, determine psychiatric diagnosis and develop treatment plan.
Evaluate results of counseling methods to determine the effectiveness of treatment used.
Independently provide comprehensive social work services in the form of casework and case management by consulting on or developing discharge plans.
Provide individual, family, and group clinical counseling services using various evidenced based modalities as clinically indicated for children and adolescents.
Provide emergency on-call crisis management services for mental health cases.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Clinical): Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. AND License: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted independent social work clinical licensure from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required. (Note: You must attach a copy of your license.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting bio-psychosocial evaluations on patients; and providing individual or group therapy to patients; and developing treatment plans for patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11) Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
