Job description
Job TitleInstalls, modifies, moves, troubleshoots, repairs and dismantles machinery and equipment according to requisition documentation, layout plans, blueprints or other drawings | Prepares installation site by constructing foundations and aligns and fastens machinery to the foundation using hoists, dollies, rollers, trucks, tools, squares, rules and micrometers | Performs operational tests on newly installed, modified, repaired and moved machinery and equipment to ensure that it meets technical specifications | Fabricates metal parts for prototype equipment based on drawings | Programs PLCs (programmable logic controllers) Experience with Lathe and Mill machinesImpact of the RoleRequires working knowledge and skills to perform a defined set of analytical scientific or operational processes | Applies experience and skills to complete assigned work within own area of expertise | Works within standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods | Works with a moderate degree of supervision | Performs manual tasks according to established proceduresEssential FunctionsAssists with the installation, operation, testing, and adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines used to produce precision parts and instruments.Fabricates and modifies parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.Measures, examines, and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.Required QualificationsRequired education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 2-5 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or ExperiencePreferred QualificationsPreferred education and experience: Associate's DegreeDiscipline/Major: Technical training preferredKnowledge, skills & abilities: Mathematical skills. Technical expertise. Manual dexterity. Physical Stamina. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Leadership skills.Physical RequirementsRequires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.May need to stand for long periods of time.Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.May be requested to work a different shift.Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.This position is Safety-Sensitive.Travel RequirementsNo or very little travel likely.
