Job description
Why This Role
This is a staff accountant seat where you own the books, not one slice of them. You'll run the accounting for a group of properties and the owning family's trust and individual accounts, so your work covers marketable securities reconciliations, capital calls and distributions, intercompany activity, and NYC filings like RPIE and Certiorari. You'll build year-end work papers yourself instead of passing them up the chain. The company is family-owned and operates its own portfolio, so there's no rotating client roster or outsourced group in the middle. The team is stable, and this hire is planned ahead of a retirement, so you'll get a real handoff. Peak-season overtime is paid, peak-season Saturdays are worked from home, basic medical and dental are fully employer-paid, and CPE and membership dues are covered.
Position Overview
The Staff Accountant handles the full accounting cycle for an assigned group of real estate properties and related family trust and individual entities. Day to day, that means bank and tenant security deposit reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger analysis, and keeping intercompany schedules current. The role also covers year-end balance sheet and income statement work papers, the annual budget, municipal reporting, and investment-related transactions. The work is done in Yardi and Excel, and special projects come up throughout the year.

Reconcile marketable securities investment accounts
Prepare and post monthly and period-end journal entries
Perform monthly general ledger analysis across assigned entities
Prepare complete year-end work papers for the balance sheet and income statement

At least 1 year of real estate accounting experience (property accounting, owner/operator, or family office)
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Hands-on Yardi experience strongly preferred
Strong Excel skills for reconciliations, schedules, and GL analysis
Experience with tenant security deposits and intercompany accounting
Exposure to RPIE, Certiorari, or trust and investment accounting is a plus
