Job description
Job SummaryThis position performs welding tasks in support of the maintenance and repair of county vehicles and equipment, as well as bridges, cattle guards, and fences.Major DutiesPerforms metal fabrication and related repairs.Repairs and replaces cattle guards, fence gates, and playground equipment.Repairs truck tarps.Maintains shop equipment and work areas.Maintains parts and supply inventories.Responds to field breakdowns and makes field repairs.Prepares materials and labor estimates for assigned repairs and orders needed supplies.Performs any other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair procedures.Knowledge of mechanical welding and heat treatment procedures.Skill in the repair of a variety of vehicles and motorized equipment.Skill in the fabrication of parts.Skill in the use of assigned tools and equipment.Skill in oral and written communication.Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.Minimum QualificationsMust have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.Must have at least one (1) year of experience.Possession of appropriate welding certification is preferred.Supplemental InformationComplexity/Scope of WorkThe work consists of related duties in the welding repair of county vehicles and equipment. The necessity of maintaining safe working conditions contributes to the complexity of the work.The purpose of this position is to repair county vehicles and equipment. Successful performance helps ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of county operations.Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentOccasionally:Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.Constantly:Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.Communicating with others to exchange information.Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.Operating machinery and/or power tools.Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.Working in low temperatures.Working in high temperatures.Working in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.Working in noisy environments.Other Requirements/InformationMust possess a valid and current Texas Driver's License.The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
